Friendship & Love & family!

Love & Friendship

Below you will see photos of our animals, or better known as the crew!  These guys keep up company, warn us of strangers or strange-ness going on, they also keep us company when we have no one to talk to.  Their warmth and love is often needed out here in the woods, as sometimes the weather can get you pretty isolated and feeling alone.  These guys keep us entertained and show us patience, unconditional love, fun, and what it is to love one another despite our differences.  They come with us sometimes, when we take a walk in the woods, they sleep with us, they lay around outside in the summer with us, they are great campfire company and make us feel safe in the dark, outside.  Regardless of the fact that they are cats and dogs, they love each other, lean on each other, keep an eye out for each other, sometimes clean each other, and protect each other; oh and also get into trouble with each other and together…lol…. all at once.

Their names are, in order of age and in order of when we welcomed  them, Maggie (Burmese boxer – rescue, 11 yrs this year), Ginger, (Golden Retriever-rescue, also 11 yrs this year), Clementine, aka Teenie (the Queen, lol, orange calico-rescue, 6 yrs this year), Jersey, aka, Croteuse (black & white tuxedo-rescue, 5 yrs this year), Ozzy (Pug-saved from going to the humane society, 6 yrs this year). And last but certainly not least, Reishi, aka, Squiblet, Squishy, (parents ferell cats, rescue, 1 yr this year) and boy oh boy has this little guy brought even more joy, love and happiness into all of our lives.

The photos display the level of comfort and ease these guys & gals feel around each other as friends and family.  And there is even a few pics of Reishi discovering possible ‘new’ friends in our back yard, Deer, and they don’t know what to make of him.  🙂

Reishi having discovered a new ‘look out’ by CLIMBING THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE to get up there!!  The little brat!  So much to see like birds and deer and the odd, random leaf blowing around in the wind.

Reishi exploring the woods just behind our house, and he has NO fear at all.  He loves to climb trees and has learned how to come down all by himself, like a big boy.

Perfect example of our dogs trying to take over the human couch!

Peek a boo…..you found me!  He looks so small in this photo.

Finally have a photo of Jersey; she is very skittish but she does love to get ‘Croteused’ (picked up and smooched and cuddled) every once in a while.

Reishi always just stretching out and looking so cozy no matter where he lays.  What a Squiblet….

Teenie and Maggie snuggling and keep each other warm.

Taking up the dog bed and not caring. lol

Hhhhmmmm this is quite interesting, thought Reishi….hhhmmmm what the heck is that?!  thought the Deer.

“I wonder if he wants to be friends?” thought Reishi.  “Is this little thing going to try and eat me?” thought the Deer.

“Nah…I guess it’s just a large squirrel or something, and I have seen it in the window checking us out; better just move along, but frig, he’s sitting in my food pile.”  thought the Deer

Totally tuckered out from playing outside.

Sunny, snowy and beautiful!

Some shots of early January

Ginger rolling around in the snow and just loving it!

Taking a walk with the dogs.

This was a day after some ice rain and then snow.  Everything looks really heavy.

The usual suspects. 🙂

Ahhhhh…. January sun…so bright and beautiful.  Especially after the dark December we had.

Spring is here and Summer’s coming!!

Maple syrup time!!

And we are starting to see some ground.  Ice is melting in the creek.

And some more grass is starting to show.
Even the ponds are starting to show.
Soon time for the frogs to start their ‘thang’.

It got really cold a couple of days and here is what the sap looks like frozen.

And of course we’re still seeing our friends from the forest.  Beautiful.  Just a few more days and then these Deer won’t be coming anymore to feed or just hang out because new growth and food is becoming more and more available to them.

And Jersey is watching these Deer…. thinking about how big these mice are!  😉
And this time of year means we get to spend more and more time outside…. enjoying the views and the smells and the sounds.  What a feeling.

There is Ozzy our Pug, if you can spot him… just chillin on the grass….

Jersey in a box.

Teenie in a the same box.
Our Home….Sweet sweet home!

A snapshot of some of the different animals we get to see (Winter months)

These pics show only some of the beautiful wildlife we see during the winter months.  I have so many of them and it’s difficult to decide which to display.  Here are just a few….

These are our ‘domesticated’ wildlife’… lol… staying warm together.  Living the life.

Our Beautiful house… where all of these adventures take place… those panels are what give us power!!  What a life we have in the middle of the woods in an old log cabin.

Here is a little opportunist, munching away at the birdseed.

This little cutie pie is who we have named Persephone…. when we first spotted this one, we gave it the monikor of ‘eyes too close together’, but decided it was a little too impersonal. 🙂

One of our three cats, sitting in front of the window with the deer in the background.  Our cats love to watch all of the animal action too.  In fact, the deer are used to seeing them now, sitting and staring at them through the window.

And in this shot, you can see a big old Owl sitting on the branch above the deer, just waiting to catch a squirel or a mouse, whichever comes first.

And here she is up close, just waiting for a meal.  We originally named it ‘Ovid’ the owl, until we learned that it’s a female… so I guess her name should be ‘Ovida’.

And again, here she is.  I say she because when this shot was taken, it was getting closer to spring and she is trying to feed herself to get ready to lay her eggs… so she needs as much food as possible, and fast.

Stay tunes for some more amazing wildlife pics.  And some fascinating stories of our life, in the middle of the woods, living off the grid!  🙂
